An independent business who focus on environmental policies, based in Wallingford, are looking for a People Development Manager (L&D) to join their HR team. About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a People Development Manager to lead a small and friendly People Development team! You will be responsible for partnering with the Directors and managers to develop and implement people management and development strategies in support of companywide goals. You should be passionate about helping people learn and grow.


  • Champion a new L&D strategy which forms a key component of our People Strategy

  • Working collaboratively with the senior management team, to identify L&D requirements and compile annual development plans.

  • Specify, source & commission L&D interventions taking account of context, learning styles and business needs and using appropriate technical solutions. Where appropriate develop internal capacity to deliver.

  • Ensure effective L&D for early career researchers (staff, Research Associates and PhD Students).

  • Evaluate the return on investment of L&D at all levels

  • Manage the L&D team (3 staff) and learning management systems.

  • Refresh the programme of management development incorporating latest guidance and tools.

  • Lead Investors in People Assessment and coordinate the Staff Engagement Group.

  • Manage career development processes including the internal promotion process and career development programmes.

Requirements

We are looking for a passionate, proactive individual who is L&D focussed through and through and who is keen to integrate L&D fully into the HR People function.


  • Proven skills and knowledge gained working in a professional L&D role

  • Ability to manage a programme of L&D across multiple sites

  • Ability to work collaboratively with senior managers

  • Proven ability to manage and develop others

  • A systematic approach to decision making, taking account of both strategic and short term goals

  • Communicate fluently and persuasively in all media, taking into consideration the message and audience

  • Willingness to travel to other sites

  • Understand effective approaches to organizational change

  • Skills in providing coaching support
